India's veteran wicket-keeper-batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Saturday said goodbye to international cricket.

Veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who became India's most successful captain in limited-overs cricket, bid goodbye to international cricket on Saturday. Mahendra Singh Dhoni arrived in Chennai on Saturday for training camp ahead of the IPL in the UAE.  While the fans were hoping that Dhoni is preparing to return to the IPL as well as the Indian team, Dhoni's decision shocked everyone.  Well it is Dhoni's style that he always takes sudden decisions and people do not even know.

The former Indian captain, who retired from Test cricket six years ago, announced on his official Instagram account that he was ending his illustrious ODI and T20 international cricket career.


Dhoni, who made a total of 538 international appearances for India, performed in international cricket during the One Day International (ODI) match against Bangladesh in December 2004.  The wicketkeeper-batsman played his first innings for India in the longest test match format of the game.

Meanwhile, Dhoni made his debut in the shortest format of the game against New Zealand in Manchester on 9 July.

In 2017, the wicket-keeper-batsman was appointed as the captain of the national team in all three formats of the game.  He became one of India's most successful captains before he stepped down in 2017 to focus his attention.  On his performance as a player.  A look at some records and career statistics of former Indian captain:

MS Dhoni scored a total of 4,876 runs in 90 Test matches played for India before announcing his retirement from the game's longest test match format on December 30,2014.


Dhoni ended his limited-overs career with 10,773 runs in 350 ODIs and 1,617 runs in 98 T.20 matches for India.

The former Indian captain is the country's first wicket-keeper to reach the feat of 4,000 Test runs. Dhoni's highest match score of 224 came against Australia.


Dhoni was the fourth player and 12th cricketer in the country to complete 10,000 runs in the 50-over format.  He reached the mark in 273 innings during the match against England in July 2018.

393 runs The biggest ODI score of 183 came against Sri Lanka in 2005.  He is also the first Indian to reach 200 maximum in a 50-over format and fifth overall.

Dhoni has also topped the list of Indian wicket-takers with the most wickets taking 829 outs in all three formats of the game.  South Africa's wicket-keeper is right behind them

Suresh Raina, 33, supported MS Dhoni on Saturday evening, announcing his international retirement.  Raina's Instagram post came a few minutes after Dhoni's retirement message on the same platform,

Which wrote "It was nothing but lovely to play with you, @ mahi7781. With pride in my heart, I choose to join you on this journey."

Raina's international career began 15 years ago with a one-day match against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka.
